The book “Scripta Selecta” is a collection of 65 articles by Prof. Michał Gawlikowski. It was published by the University of Warsaw Press on the occasion of his 80th birthday.

A promotion of the book, organized by the Faculty of Archaeology and the Polish Centre of Mediterranean Archaeology, University of Warsaw will be held on 20th March, at 5 pm in the Ball Room of the Tyszkiewiczów-Potockich Palace (Krakowskie Przedmieście 32). A film about prof. Gawlikowski will be screened as part o the event.

Prof. Michał Gawlikowski, a student of Prof. Kazimierz Michałowski, is among the most distinguished Polish archaeologists. He was Director of the PCMA UW in 1991–2005 and Director of the Institute of Archaeology in 1989–1991. The majority of his professional life has, however, been devoted to Palmyra, where he made many significant discoveries as the director of the PCMA UW expedition (since 1973). At the turn of the 1980s, he directed salvage excavations in Iraq, and for many years, he headed the archaeological-conservation expedition working in the mithraeum in Hawarte (Syria). His most recent archaeological project took him to Saudi Arabia, to the site of Aynuna on the Red Sea coast. Prof. Gawlikowski is also a prominent lecturer and has supervised several dozen MA theses and over a dozen PhD dissertations. He has also authored many publications, a choice of which can be found in “Scripta selecta”.
