The exhibition presents a photographic record of the ceremonial procession marking the beginning of the 1981/82 academic year. The event took place during the communist era, just before martial law was imposed. It was a period of great political tension, and the University of Warsaw community sought to defend its academic independence and the right to the free exchange of ideas.
We will look at the inauguration of the 1981/82 academic year from two perspectives: from the lens of the university photographer, Andrzej Bodytka, and through the eyes of Zofia Boglewska-Hulanicka – a longtime employee of the University of Warsaw and the wife of the then-dean of the Faculty of Chemistry, Prof. Adam Hulanicki. The exhibition will be on view in the main lobby of the Old University Library from September 23 through October 30.
